Fo’ ma ladies!
Agnus Castus (also known as Chasteberry tree)
Click here to see what the real plant looks like!
This plant is probably one of the most useful & essential remedies for women. It is not a fast acting remedy, but if taken religiously, it really works wonders. Traditionally, it’s an important remedy in controlling and regulating the female reproductive system. It has been long used to regularise monthly periods, and to treat amenorrhea (an abnormal absence of menstruation) & dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation). It also helps with abnormal menstrual bleeding. Apparently it was used as a remedy to reduce sexual desire in the Middle Ages. Agnus Castus is considered to be the best herb for ailments such as fibroid cysts of the uterus & endometriosis. What would be used as a remedy are the seed-like berries, which are what the flowers on the plant turn into. It could be taken as a tincture, or in form of pills.
Some studies show that Agnus Castus also reduce negative symptoms associated with PMS such as anxiety, mood changes, insomnia etc.
Side effects of using Agnus Castus are rare. Less than 2% of women monitored while using Agnus Castus as remedy were reported to have minor gastrointestinal upset and a mild skin rash with itching. Not recommended for pregnant women.
I hope you find this useful :) salaam.
